MailScan for SMTP
Complete Antivirus and Content Security
Solution for your computer
|
|
MailScan 4 for SMTP Servers is for customers
using Linux, Unix, Novell or other non-Windows
platforms on their e-mail Server. MailScan for
SMTP Servers works on a Windows machine and acts
like a Security Gateway between your Mail Server
and the Internet. It also has an inbuilt multi-threaded
SMTP Server and a POP3 Downloader.
It has the world's first e-mail, Content-Security
and Anti-Virus feature that analyzes e-mail's on
a real-time basis, before they are delivered to
the clients or the servers on your network. This
version, allows you to scan internal mails (local
user to local user) and external mails (local user
to Internet, Internet to local user).
Besides providing Anti-Virus and Content-Scanning,
MailScan also has a Generic Attachment Analyzer,
automatic compression / decompression feature,
a comprehensive Notification Engine and many other
features.
Features specific to MailScan 4 for SMTP
Servers
- Realtime Blackhole list (RBL): MAPS (Mail Abuse
Prevention System) provides a list of IP addresses
that are known Spammers or allow spamming. This
list is called as Black hole list. When your
SMTP Server, receives a mail from a domain, not
on its allow domain list, you can send a query
to MAPS Server which verifies the IP.
- Dial-Up Users (DUL): Spammers sometimes use
stealth mail tactics when their initial Spam
attempts are blocked. They use a dial-up-service
(DUL) provider to connect their Spam mail service,
to the SMTP Server. This is trespassing on your
MailServer and the MAPS DUL project helps in
identifying and stopping Spam. The project has
a list of DUL users who are known Spammers. To
verify if the request for connection to your
SMTP Server is genuine, you can send a query
to dialups.mail-abuse.org. The request is verified
and returned.
- Reverse DNS: MailScan for SMTP server will
do reverse DNS for each connecting IP to verify
their IP when other users try to connect to your
server.
- User level routing/forwarding: It provides
routing and forwarding of mails on user level
- Mailparking and Mail delay: This feature provides
Delay for Outbound Mails It also allows you to
select the size of e-mails that should be parked
or delayed and set the time duration.
- Mail size Restriction: It provides Mail size
restriction on gateway level.
- Clustering: This feature is useful to ISP or
Servers that receive a large number of mails
that need to be scanned. The primary server receives
mails. Scanning takes time and you can designate
other machines in your network, distribute mails
to them for scanning. This is called load balancing
and the machines form a Cluster. The cluster
machines need not be connected to the Internet
but they must have MailScan for SMTP Server installed.
- It provides Relay Control using IP-blocks (to
ensure that unauthorized IP addresses are blocked
from sending mails through the Mail Server).
- It also provides Relay Control using Sender-Domain
Checks. E-mails sent through MailScan for SMTP
Servers are checked for validity of domain names,
before they are accepted for for delivery.
- MailScan for SMTP Servers can control multiple
domains.
- MailScan provides Hop Control to ensure that
the mails do not loop.
- SMTP: ETRN Support added - Extended Turn feature
added In Mailscan for SMTP server. ETRN is an
extension to the SMTP mail delivery protocol
that allows an SMTP server to request from another
SMTP server any e-mail messages it has for a
specific domain. ETRN typically is used to retrieve
e-mail messages from a mail server that does
not have a dedicated connection to the Internet.
ETRN can only be used in conjunction with an
ISP that supports ETRN. This feature is available
only for MailScan for SMTP Server.
Enterprise Edition of MailScan 4 for SMTP
Servers has POP-Download Module along with it.
MailScan 4 for SMTP Servers (also called MailScan
for Gateways), can act like a SMTP/POP3 e-mail gateway
that allows the users to download messages from their
ISP's Internet POP3 mailboxes, to their local e-mail
folders.
For example, although majority of the SMTP-Servers
(like Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Notes) have an
Internet Mail Service, they do not have the ability
to retrieve messages from the Internet mailboxes
residing at your ISP.
MailScan for SMTP Servers (Enterprise edition) uses
the POP3 protocol, which is the accepted standard
for retrieving messages from Internet mailboxes.
MailScan's POP3 downloader can support any multi
POP3 mailboxes for multi ISPs.
- POP-Downloader can download mails from multiple
POP3 accounts and forward them to the SMTP Server
for delivery.
- Size restriction can be applied on mails that
are downloaded.
- Wildcard Account download is supported. A single
account collects mails for the entire domain.
After download, recipients' addresses are checked
for the domain, the mails sorted and sent to
them.
- Duplicate mails are checked and not downloaded.
These are deleted in the server itself.
- Smallest message is downloaded first and largest
later.
- Configurable to schedule download of mails
at regular intervals without any user intrvention.
